Alana Grelyak is a musician, composer, writer, and actor living in Chicago, IL. She is best known for her film “Catalogue,” which has been featured on USA Today, NPR, and other news sources, and was a runner-up in the 2013 Internet Cat Video Festival, second only to the ubiquitous Grumpy Cat.

Alana Grelyak is and has always been a musician. She holds a Master’s Degree in classical piano performance from UW-Madison, where she studied with Howard Karp and Christopher Taylor, and took master classes with Yefim Bronfman and Paul Badura-Skoda. After school, Alana began writing and performing her own music. In 2009, she met her now husband Michael Gabriele, with whom she began collaborating on various film projects. She has written the scores for numerous short films including “Catalogue,” “Haven,” “Guarding the Montalbano,” “Donor,” “An Awkward Situation,” and others, many of which have been screened at film festivals around the country and have won numerous awards.  In 2013, Alana began work as an Associate Composer with Sonixphere, a music production company in Chicago, where she is learning to compose music for TV and films. She also composed a piece for jazz band and cat, which premiered at the Kitty Bungalow Catbaret in Los Angeles in May of 2013 and starred Nora, the piano cat.

Outside of music, Alana works as a writer. Her articles have been published in various magazines (a Google search will find you plenty), but her main writing gig is for her blog Catinthefridge.com, where she works to promote the adoption of special needs animals. It has won several awards, and has been nominated for Best Cat Blog and Best Cause Blog by BlogPaws 2014, and she would be very pleased if you visited there and viewed her adoptable Bachelor/ette of the Week.  Alana is also the main writer for the CATastrophes web series, in which she also stars and for which she writes the music. You may recognize her from the film “Catalogue” which is currently touring with the 2013 Internet Cat Video Festival.
